Travel Benefits

Worldwide Travel Insurance

Worldwide travel insurance that covers you and your family for trips of up to 31 days. The policy also includes winter sports and £10 million medical expenses cover.

What you should know:

  • Family cover includes you and your partner, plus any dependent children under age 18 at the start of the journey, (under 23 if they’re in full-time education). Children must be living at the home address (or with the other parent), and be neither married or in a Civil Partnership
  • Your partner is the person you the account holder lives with at the same home address in a relationship, whether married or cohabiting
  • To include an additional party on your policy, or if you have a medical condition, please call 0345 609 0456 ( or Minicom number 0370 600 0856) to confirm your premiums and cover. Lines are open 8am-8pm Mon-Fri, 9am-5pm Saturday, 10am-5pm Sunday and 9am to 5pm on bank holidays. We are closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year's Day and Easter Sunday. Calls may be recorded
  • If anyone covered by the policy is aged 70 or over, there’s a £50 annual premium per person insured aged 70 or over
  • If you have an existing medical condition, you may have to pay an additional premium or accept that your cover may exclude certain conditions.
  • All our insurance products are underwritten by U K Insurance Limited.

  • 10% discount on airport parking, airport hotels, UK airport lounge access, car hire and more when booked through the Travel Service

  • No credit card or booking fees
  • No limit to the number of times you may use the service

  • Orders must be online or over the phone through membership services to receive preferential rates
  • Minimum order of £100 applies.

Your policy covers your mobile phone for loss, theft, accidental damage and if your phone stops working

What you should know:

  • The policy covers unauthorised calls up to £2,500 (inc VAT) for monthly contracts and up to £100 (inc VAT) for pay as you go customers
  • Covers account holders’ phones only
  • 2 phones are covered if you have a joint account
  • The replacement value per phone is unlimited (excluding cosmetic embellishments with precious metals, stones or crystals)
  • There is a £75 excess.

UK Car Breakdown Cover

Our partners, Green Flag will get you and your vehicle home, or to your preferred location, anywhere in the UK

What you should know:

  • Full national service - anywhere in the UK, including homecall
  • Cover for vehicles you own that are  kept and registered at your home address
  • Anyone driving or travelling in the vehicle owned by you is covered too
  • Limited to 5 callouts in any 12 months
  • Doesn't cover any repair costs once the insured vehicle has been transported to a garage or repairer
  • UK car breakdown cover is underwritten by U K Insurance Limited.

How are Rewards calculated?

Council tax is calculated over 12 monthly payments, if you pay your Council Tax over 10 months you should take this into account or consider entering this yearly.

With the 3% Direct Debit offer, you’ll receive 3% in Rewards on every selected household bill paid by Direct Debit. Payments for services like maintenance, repairs and insurance won’t earn Rewards, for more information please see our exclusions. 5.00 Rewards = £5 when exchanged. Use Apple Pay in store (iPhone 6, 6 Plus, 6S and 6S Plus or Apple Watch) and within apps (Phone 6, 6 Plus, 6S and 6S Plus, iPad Air 2, iPad Pro and iPad Mini 3 and 4).

Apple Pay is available on selected personal current accounts and RBS MasterCard credit cards.

Support when you need it

Emergency Cash

If your debit card is lost or stolen, our Emergency Cash service makes sure you can access your money from our ATMs. Simply call us and we’ll send you a code that’ll let you withdraw your cash.

If you’re an online or telephone banking customers, you can access up to £300. 
If you’re not registered for these services, you can still get £60 to tide you over. 

You need to have the money in your account to withdraw it & you'll need at least £20 in your account to use the service.

When you call we will ask some security questions, then provide a code that allows you to withdraw your money from any RBS, NatWest or Ulster cash machine.

An overdraft for a little breathing space

Your RBS Reward Platinum account overdraft can give you access to additional money if you ever need it (subject to eligibility, over 18s only).
  • You can borrow up to an approved limit at any time, and increase your limit (subject to approval) or decrease it whenever you want
  • Only pay interest on what you borrow within your agreed limit (please note if you use your arranged overdraft by more than £250 you will be charged an Arranged Overdraft Usage Fee)
Unarranged overdrafts

If you go overdrawn without having an arranged overdraft (or if you go over your agreed limit), then you may be charged these fees:

  • An Unarranged Overdraft Usage Fee of £6 per day (if an unarranged overdraft of more than £10 is created on your account); or
  • An Unpaid Transaction Fee of £6 for each transaction we decide not to pay because you don’t have enough money available.

Want to close your bank account at your old bank?

7 Day Current Account Switch Service:

  • Transfer your regular payments (Direct Debits, Standing Orders and Bill Payments) from your old account
  • Transfer any credit balance from your old account
  • Close your old account

Want to keep your old account?

  • We'll still transfer your regular payments (Direct Debits, Standing Orders & Bill Payments) within 7 days
  • We are reliant on the Direct Debit Originators to update their records. If the Direct Debit Originator tries to claim before this has happened, your old bank will return it as unpaid
  • Credit will remain in your old account and any future credit will be paid to this account

Move some of your Direct Debits

If you want to move just one Direct Debit from another bank you need to contact the supplier who you pay the direct debit to and provide them with updated details to take the Direct Debit from your RBS bank account.

If you're applying online, try and have a UK Passport or Driving licence to hand along with a working credit or debit card.

If you don't have these, don't worry. You can still apply online and we will ask you to provide other forms of ID and proof of address that we can accept.
