Joint Bank Accounts

Get our £200 offer when you switch to Royal Bank

Apply online or via our mobile app to switch a current account held elsewhere using the Current Account Switch Service into a Royal Bank account from 15 February 2024.

Deposit £1,250 into your account and log in to our mobile banking app within 60 days. App eligibility criteria apply.

When you meet these conditions, we'll pay £200 into your eligible account within 7 days

Account must be opened in a sole name before being made joint. It's not possible to switch a joint account into a sole account, so if you're looking to switch in a joint account to us, you will need to wait for the joint account process to complete before requesting the switch.

Your switch must fully complete to receive the incentive, this means your old bank account will close and any funds and Direct Debits will move over to us. The deposit of £1,250 can be made up of multiple credits and must remain in the account for 24 hours. If you've previously received a switcher incentive from NatWest Group since 01 January 2020, you will not be eligible for this offer. Offer can be withdrawn or amended at any time. Account eligibility criteria apply.

How does the Current Account Switch Service work?

What is a joint bank account?

In most ways, a joint bank account is the same as having your own, except two people have control over the account. It's great for couples, trusted friends or family members, who want to share part of their banking.

Both people can spend money from the account, and both parties are also responsible for any arranged overdraft (subject to approval).

It'll give you a Contactless Debit Card each. You'll also be able to manage your joint bank account together using our Mobile Banking app, or via Digital Banking.

What current accounts can I open or make joint?

You can only open and then add to our Select,Reward, Premier Select or Premier Reward account in a sole name and, then request to add a party to make this joint, or you can request to add to an existing one of the above acounts to make this joint.

Revolve and Student accounts can only be opened and owned in sole names.

Any account that includes the following in the product name, Silver, Platinum, Black, Student, Revolve can't be added to.

How to set up a joint bank account online

Opening a joint bank account with the Royal Bank of Scotland may include a few extra steps than when you’re opening an account on your own. To set this up, you’ll need to add the new party to your new or existing current account.
