To apply you must be aged 17 or over & completing a full-time undergraduate course that lasts at least 2 years; completing a full-time post-graduate course; or training as a nurse, at a UK university or college of higher education. If you want to apply for the Arranged Overdraft too, you'll need to be aged 18 or above and a permanent UK resident (ordinarily resident in the UK for 3 years or more)

An interest-free overdraft, there when you need it

You can get more flexibility with an interest-free arranged overdraft, just in case you need a bit of a safety net between bills going out and payments coming in. You can apply for up to £500 in term 1 and up to £2,000 after that.

Overdraft applications are subject to approval, you must be over 18 and be a permanent UK resident to apply.

You must use your RBS Student Account as your main current account by paying in at least £750 every 6 months and make at least 3 debit transactions every month. If you stop using your account as your main current account then the interest rate you pay on your Arranged Overdraft reverts to the standard rate which applies to the Select Account. Arranged Overdrafts are repayable on demand.

Make use of our digital and mobile banking services to:

  • login to mobile banking using your Touch ID registered fingerprints. This option is available to iPhone 5S and 6 users with the latest iOS operating system
  • withdraw money without your card using Get Cash (from NatWest, RBS and Tesco ATMs). All you need to do is select the amount, and we'll provide you with a secure code which you can use straight away

Pay your friends with their mobile number

The app can send money to your friends using their mobile number instantly - even if they’re customers of other banks! Open your Mobile app, click on the ‘Pay Your Contacts’ option, enter their mobile number, the amount you want to pay them and add a personal message.

 

Paying another Natwest mobile app user

If the person you’re paying is a NatWest mobile app user, they’ll receive a text to let them know you have made a payment to them and the money will be in their account instantly.

 

Paying a friend who is registered for Paym

If the person you’re paying is registered for the Paym service, they’ll receive a text to let them know you have made a payment to them and the money will be in their account instantly - even if they are a customer with another bank!

If you are not sure if your friend is register for either, don't worry, our Pay Your Contacts service will work out the fastest method for you.

If we can't send the payment via our NatWest app or the Paym service we will send it via Visa Collection. They just need to have a valid UK Visa debit, credit or prepaid card and a UK mobile. We’ll send them a text message to let them know the money is waiting, and a link to click. Separately, you will have to let them know how much you've sent them. When they follow the link in the message, enter their Visa card number and the amount they’re expecting from you, we’ll deposit the money in their account within 3 days.

Once we’ve notified your contact, they have seven days to collect a payment. And we’ll send you a text message when they’ve collected the payment and your balance has been debited.

Some important information

Pay Your Contacts lets you send maximum payment of £250 a working day, which is separate from daily withdrawal and Get Cash limits, to someone aged 16 and over with a UK mobile number and

  • a NatWest Mobile Banking app
  • or registered for Paym with their own bank
  • or a valid UK Visa debit, credit or prepaid card.
