Verifying your ID online

We want to help you open your account as quickly as possible, so, when we can we'll ask you to provide your documents online.

When you apply it would also be great if you could have a UK driving license, passport or EU ID card and a Mastercard or Visa card belonging to you.

If you’ve applied with us online, we may send you a link to use DigiDocs. This means we need to double-check your ID and address. We may also need to check proof of income or require further information.

DigiDocs is our online tool that lets you capture, share and sign your documents with us. You can quickly and safely upload your documents so we can process your application.

You’ll receive your DigiDocs invite via email or text. Once you’ve received your invite, you’ll need to register using the email address provided in your application.

Documents we accept in branch

If we can't complete your application online or you haven't got the documents for online ID, we accept others when you open your account in one of our branches. You'll need one item to confirm your identity and another document that we can accept as proof of your address.

Why do banks ask for proof of ID and address?

It's important that banks work hard on processes that help prevent money laundering. This is when criminals try to disguise money that has been made illegally, to use it for their own future purposes.

To do this, criminals often attempt to open a bank account using fake or stolen ID. We try to stop this by verifying all of our new customers as genuine, by asking for proof of identity and often current address.

If you are applying online, we try our best to complete this electronically, using our security partners Digidocs, so the process is as easy as possible for you. This is why we ask you to have your ID at hand before you begin your application.
